About the book, from Amazon.com:

Hot on the Range is written by new author R.D. Jentsch and illustrated by David C. Bryant. The tale begins with two horses seeking shelter from the sweltering Texas sun. Willie, a laid back palomino ambles over to a shady spot under a tree, while Chester a paint horse, looks under rocks and every other corner of the pasture to find relief. From rolling in the mud to smelling cactus flowers, it will be Chester’s own master who will save the day with a cool stream of icy water from the outdoor spigot. Recommended for an award in children’s literary fiction, this book is loosely based on the behavior of two real horses and proves to be a whole lot of summer fun for the whole family.

What we thought about the book:

I was very excited when we got the opportunity to review this children's book. I grew up on a farm and was a huge horse lover as a child. We don't have horses now but my sons and I still love horses, and all other farm animals!

We read this book for the first time as a family, all 5 of us! It kept all the boys attention, which isn't an easy thing to do, so I was really impressed. They were interested from start to finish and so was I! The book is so well written and really made me feel like I was there, on that hot Texas ranch. My sons loved how the story went, they said it was fun to see the horse go from place to place, searching for water and running in to problems everywhere he went, until the cool and happy ending! We loved the illustrations in the book as well, below is a picture inside our copy and a video clip taken from the Hot on the Range Website {which you should really check out!}

A big thank you to the author, R.D. Jentsch, for providing this book for review! She is also getting ready to write a new book, full of cute and funny things that kids say. She is looking for stories so if you have any you would like to share, you can contact her here.
